Here in Wisconsin, we don't see Louisiana merlitons. But today, I saw in our local Super-Wal-Mart something called a chayote squash. Both are referred to as "vegetable pears." I see no difference. When I went on line to find out about chayote, I saw a picture of one split in half. Even THAT way, it's a "dead ringer" for the merlitons I knew back in "Bayou Country." Can anyone out there tell me about these things? |

Merlitons happen to be the southern name for chayote squash. They are both the same thing. Also very tasty. |
