Any ideas on the best way to cook babby back ribs.
Broil?

Anything would help!

The absolute best way to cook ribs is to smoke them over low burning coals... I like to use hickory wood chips to add to the smokey flavor and nice red smoked color!!!

.....and the best method of smoking; soak the chips in water for a few hours first, then place them around the cooler edge of the coal bed. This way they smoke more, burn less.

Hey Flash,
Have you tried the Jack Daniels Oak Smoking chips? I understand they are fantastic...great flavor!
In your BBQ of course...not stirred with a water back....

No, haven't had the oppty. I've had good results with chips of a more generic nature so haven't been really tempted to try 'branded' variety.
One further note on the method.... the larger the chip, the longer they need to soak. I've had some mesquite chips large enuff to warrant soaking for a day or two. You don't want these things to actually flame on, you'll crisp the meat. Keep a spray bottly handy. (Maybe that's where you want the Jack Daniels, eh?)

The jack daniels chips are made from the oak casks that held the Whiskey. I have not tried them either but am tempted. I would hate to ruin a few slabs of baby backs on some bad smoke!!!

But how does the cost compare to other commercially available chips?

.
I have the best recipe and the easiest. Salt and pepper your ribs, wrap in foil and put in baking dish.
Bake in 300 degree oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. They should be shrinking from the end of the bone and be very tender.
Remove from foil and put on hot grill. baste with your favorite barbecue sauce Grill til brown.
Enjoy.
