does anyone know if it is important to peel the ginger for making ginger beer?

Hi. All of the recipes that I've seen for ginger beer say lots of things, use diced ginger, pounded (gently) ginger, sliced ginger, even ginger powder...but I've never seen one that says to peel it. I don't imagine that would be an easy thing to do, anyway....would it? I've had commercial ginger beer but never homemade, I imagine it's quite good. Good luck!
