It's great that so many people seem to love "cooking", but REALLY it's frustrating when "recipes" nowadays consist of "instant cake mix + CoolWhip + crushed pineapple". It's a disgusting insult to real cooking/baking and I'm so frustrated by hitting site after site of it on the internet. I'm a student who can't zip out for specialty pre-made ingredients full of preservatives and with a chocked-up price from processing. Doesn't anybody make things with the BASICS - flour, sugar, etc? Really it's no more difficult.

Disappointed,
Emily (new to this site)

Hello Emily,

I suggest you go buy a bag of your favorite grain and some sugar cane and start grinding because both flour and sugar are processed and contain additives that increase the price. Its interesting that the 3 ingredients you hit on were all sweet "instant cake mix + CoolWhip + crushed pineapple". Only a small portion of the recipes in this site are for desert. I suggest you look beyond your sweet tooth and into the other 99% of the netcooks website where you can learn to cook "real" recipes from different countries from around the world. Really, it's no more difficult.

We certainly don't want to overlook the basics. With a memory like mine it helps to have a reference where the temp and time for baking a chicken can be found. When I get around to baking that chicken though, it's gonna be spruced up some way and new products on the shelf at the grocery offer interesting possibilities. I find recipes of both types interesting and useful.

I find both types useful, too - sometimes the constraints of time in a busy society just don't allow all of us to peruse the purest form of cooking. It's just a fact of modern day life and I Don't think getting your undies in a bundle is worth it. Why don't you join the community instead of just grumbling as a guest - maybe we can all find some happy mediums, so to speak!
