What has been your most memorable/ hilarious/ extraordinary/ unusual/ successful or disastrous meal ? The one you will always remember best? Was it in your own country or overseas; eating at home or outdoors or in a restaurant or a cafe, or in a friend's house?

:oops: One that comes to mind from many years back was when my wife's brother and his then to be wife were invited over to our new house for a BBQ. I was making grilled chicken and the chicken just wouldn't cook and the longer I kept it on the fire,the blacker the chicken got. When it finally got to the table it was black as coal and we had to take off the skin to eat it. I said jokingly that it was my famous blackened cajun chicken. But all it was , was burnt chicken. After that I learned that if you microwave your chicken for 10 minutes before you put it on the grill,by the time it is golden,the chicken is cooked. They were good sports and ate it anyway but I have made it up to them with some fine meals over the years. You do learn from your mistakes.

Great! Thanks for that, especially as you told it against yourself.
On one of our visits to London,I asked our English son-in-law what single dish could be ascribed to London and he suggested jellied eels. We looked up the eel shops in the phone book and there were two left (used to be dozens). Off we trooped, husband, self, daughter and son-in-law plus tiny grandson (now a six-footer).The shop was tiny, clean and tiled like an old German dairy shop. The eels were ALIVE...in the window! We went inside, where jellied eels were available solo or with mashed potato and a bright green parsley sauce.My big brave London son-in-law quailed and settled for mashed potato, as did vegetarian daughter and conservative husband. In the end it was left to this Irish-Australian to try London's famed dish. The eel is very white and tastes like the finest whiting. I shall never forget that strange meal. I wonder if there are any eel-shops left?

One story? If that's the worst thing that happened to you all week you had a damn good week! I could bring you to tears (or sleep) with the stories of improperly kept fires or 'last minute' changes in the game plan just because I hadn't all the facts.

I won't put you to sleep with it, but just so you can't say I didn't share, the temperature of meat/poultry whatever will tend to 'hang' for a while just short of the target temp. If you've got pork butts going and they need to hit 160 degF to be called 'done' then you can expect them to 'hang' at 150 degF for a while. When they are done, the temp will jump up to the target temp quickly!

... perhaps a successful adventure is worth mention. Way back in the "80s" I planned a meal for my 'intended' based on a meal menu by Julia Child. The "Roast Cornish Game Hen on Straw Potatoe Gallette" was more than I could resist. It was a lot of work. It was good. Cleanup lasted forever. It was fun. We are now married 24 years +.
