|
|
3 cups flour 1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. baking powder 1 cup hot water
|
Begin heating griddle on high heat.
In large bowl, combine all ingredients except the water. Mix with hand mixer till thoroughly blended.
Add hot water and again mix with hand mixer till beaters begin to get sticky. Remove mixer and continue to knead by hand for at least 5 minutes.
Place dough on floured surface and cover with bowl you used to mix it in. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Tear off palm-size pieces and roll between palms to form round balls. Place balls on floured surface and cover again for 5 minutes.
On small pile of flour, flatten ball on both sides to coat with flour and begin rolling up and down with rolling pin, keeping tortilla surface slightly floured. Continue to turn tortilla and roll up and down till desired size is reached, 6 to 8 inches depending on thickness desired.
Flip tortilla between your hands a few times before placing on hot griddle.
Begin to roll next tortilla by repeating procedure.
When tortilla begins to bubble on griddle, turn over and finish the tortilla you're working on.
Remove tortilla from griddle and thoroughly cool on rack if placing in gallon-size ziplock baggie for storage or between towels if using fresh.
