Garlic Beer Bread
|
|
|
1 12oz bottle of beer (the better the beer, the better the bread, do NOT use a rice beer like bud, use a good wheat beer). 2 Tbls. dried yeast 4 Tbls. butter 1/2 cup scalded milk, cooled 1 Tbls. salt 2 tsp. garlic powder 5-7 cups of flour 3 Tbls. sugar
|
Warm beer up slightly and put into a large bowl. Add the yeast, salt, sugar, garlic, and cooled milk. Stir this all together and let sit until the yeast is disolved, stirring occasionally (about 10 minutes) .
Mix in 4 cups of flour and knead slightly, add the rest of the flour a little at a time until you have the right consistency and the bread kneads easily. Knead for about 10 minutes (I use my kitchenade mixer and cut my kneading down to about 2 minutes tops). Dough should be smooth and not stick to hands if you have enough flour in it.
Put dough into a buttered large bowl and cover with a warm wet cloth until dough doubles.
Punch down and let rise a second time.
Punch down again and knead slightly. Divide dough into 2 loaves and put into 2 buttered bread pans. Let rise again until doubled in the pans.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F. until bread is golden brown.
Remove from pans and let cool on racks.
While bread is still warm take a stick of butter and rub all over the top to make it shiney and gives the crust a yummy buttery flavor.
Serve warm or cooled, this bread is so delicious! Everyone will love it!
