Cherry Cookie Kisses Cardamom Flavored Scandinavian Cookies! |

2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 large egg 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. ground nutmeg (optional) 3/4 tsp. ground cardamom 36 maraschino cherries, cut in half

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a medium bowl, sift the flour twice. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer set on medium speed, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg, vanilla, nutmeg, and cardamom. Reduce the mixer speed to low. Gradually beat in the flour just until a firm, but not dry, dough forms. Spoon half of the dough into a cookie press fitted with a snowflake plate. Press cookies, 1 inch apart, onto 2 ungreased baking sheets.
Top each cookie with a cherry half. Bake the cookies until barely colored and slightly browned on the bottom, 10 to 15 minutes.
Transfer the baking sheets to a wire rack to cool.
Repeat with the remaining dough and cherries.
