Basic Stew A Good Basic Stew! |

2 lbs. of steak or chicken (cubed) 6-8 potatoes (cleaned, peeled-if you wish) 1 medium spanish onion (peeled, sliced) 1 1lb. pkg whole mushrooms (washed, sliced) 1 artichoke (peeled, diced) 4-8 stalks celery (diced) 1 24oz. pkg of frozen mixed vegetables(carrots, corn, green beans, kidney beans) 4 Tbls. butter or vegetable oil 4 bay leaves 1 tsp. savory 1/2 cup sweet marsala wine 1 32oz. can chicken broth

In a large Kettle over Medium Heat; melt butter or oil, add mushrooms, and as they brown, add the wine. Add the meat, brown it. Add the onions, continue to brown. Add the artichoke and celery reduce heat to medium low. Add the potatoes and the chicken broth. Add the frozen vegetables, the bay leaves, and savory. Simmer for an hour or two, stirring occasionally. Salt and pepper to taste. Add water as needed. Brown gravy mix can be added with thickener as needed. Good served with warm fresh bread or dinner rolls. Freeze what is left over.
