Thayir Bonda
Fried Black Gram Balls in Yogurt
1 cup split black gram, soaked for 20 minutes
1 onion, finely chopped
2-3 curry leaves
1 tsp. ginger, grated
1 tsp. peppercorns, crushed
salt, to taste
oil, for frying

FOR YOGURT
2 cups yogurt, beaten
2 Tbls. fresh, grated coconut
2 nos green chilli
1 tsp. ginger, grated
1 tsp. cumin seeds
salt, to taste

 

Drain the soaked gram, and grind well with just a few tsp of water.

Mix in the rest of the ingredients, except oil. Keep aside.

Prepare yogurt by first grinding all ingredients except yogurt. Mix in yogurt and check the seasoning.

Heat oil in a frying pan, drop spoonfuls of the gram batter into the oil and fry until golden brown. Drain and put into the yogurt.

Serve garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
