Here in Wisconsin, we don't see Louisiana merlitons. But today, I saw in our local Super-Wal-Mart something called a chayote squash. Both are referred to as "vegetable pears." I see no difference. When I went on line to find out about chayote, I saw a picture of one split in half. Even THAT way, it's a "dead ringer" for the merlitons I knew back in "Bayou Country." Can anyone out there tell me about these things?

Merlitons happen to be the southern name for chayote squash. They are both the same thing. Also very tasty.
